Week 7 Fly Fishing Report – Ladybower Fisheries
Boobies, Beetles & Bump-Offs! Ladybower Delivers Despite Tricky Takes & Surface Snackers
It’s been another cracking week on the water, even though the fish have been testing our patience at times! Early mornings started like a mill pond – calm and glassy – but as the wind picked up, so did the action.
Highlights from the Bank & Boat:
• Grainfoot: A tricky morning session saw 4 fish landed on black & green boobies using a short leader and intermediate line. All fish returned – small stickies but good sport!
• Pickles: 5 more fish came to the net here as the wind arrived – 3 on a little Diawl Bach and 2 on a brown/orange hopper. One chunky 2.5lb rainbow made it to the table.
• Upper Layers: Fish showing from the surface down to around 3ft. One angler took all 3 of his fish on a Hot Head Damsel with a very slow retrieve – one even hit on the drop!
• Boat Jetty: A sharp-eyed angler caught several on a Blue Flash Damsel – mixing fast long pulls with slower retrieves.
Margin Magic:
• Between the Viaduct and Surgeon’s House, Nash fished the rocky bank casting along the margins. Steady retrieves with damsels brought 4 fish to hand and a few more missed takes.
• Reports of fish caught on Red & Black Montana in patchy conditions.
Tactics:
Many anglers mentioned fish bumping off or nipping at fly tails without fully committing – a sure sign they’re getting picky with so many free beetles on the water. Some success came from slow or static drifts, with fish taking just under the surface.
Special shoutout to the team for trimming back the bankside bushes – much appreciated by all who fish the edges!

• White & Yellow Boobies
• Sinking Beetle Imitations
• Small Dark Dries just under the surface
